Starting the Recipe For Success Program at Woodview Elementary School, Houston, Tx

Kate, the after school coordinator, oversees the start up of the Seed-To-Plate program at Woodview Elementary School in Spring Branch ISD. Along with Kate, there are Liberty, Susan and me working together to start a journey in establishing student owned gardens that will help children learn about nutrition, tending a garden and cooking healthy foods from the food grown in the garden. We are very excited! Be on the lookout for upcoming photos and comments. Please feel free to add suggestions, comments, or questions to this blog!

  1. Here are Susan and Liberty, with Kate in the back. Ivy isn't in this photo. Taken in Kate's office on a planning day in the beginning of the project.

  2. I am so excited about our new Seed to Plate program! The students will be engaged and lovin' it! Plans are in the works for an after school program for third, fourth and fifth graders attending on different days each week. An hour in the Recipe for Success Garden and an hour in the Seed to Plate Kitchen for each group each week!

  4. What a great look to this blog! So excited about this project. Talk about relevance and integration of curriculum. The kids can post their recipes. When is the feast?

  5. When I was walking on your campus this spring, I thought your courtyard was a great place for a garden. Had no idea you already had one in the works! Looking forward to learning more this fall!

    1. Although the courtyard would be a beautiful and centrally located location, the garden has been approved for the grassy area inside the track on the south side of campus--better drainage!

    2. The approved area will also have more sun exposure and space for expansion if we ever have the need to create more beds in the future.

  6. Sun, space, and drainage are the some of the most important parts of a great garden. Look for pictures of the selected area soon!
